My toaster/oven arrived today! It is so cute! I think it will fit very nicely on my kitchen counter.
It's about half the size of my current toaster oven. It's taller than I thought it would be, but of course it has to be tall enough for the toast to fit vertically. It has a pretty small footprint, though. I'm not going to use it yet, but it will be in the first load I bring to The Palms. One nice surprise is that it has a baking pan. Like a miniature cookie sheet - so cute! Andy Baird commented that I should get a silicone baking sheet, cut it, and use it on top to cover the toaster slots when I'm baking. That will make the oven work better. I have one on order - thanks Andy! - I wanted a black one to match the appliances. I'm going to cut it in half, use half on top when I need it, and the other half I'll set the toaster/oven on so it won't slide. I can also use it on the "baking pan."

Question: See the stickers on the stove hood? There are three "caution" stickers right there, and I wanted to remove them. I was told I should leave them so I'd remember what they say - the "caution" stuff. What have you done with this kind of thing? I'm thinking I'll take a close-up photo and paste them inside a nearby cupboard. I think keeping them there is like leaving the tag on your hat - like Minnie Pearl. What do you think?
I saw this on line - see the wall attachments? Even if just for my knives and a flower pot, I think I'm going to look into them. I don't know if they will work in my kitchen, but I sure like the way they look, and they would be space savers and keep things handy.
I'll at least hang a magnetic strip on the wall behind the stove for my knives.
After all this kitchen talk, I'm going to see what I've got for dinner.

ReplyDeleteI would not want the stickers. Good idea to put the info inside the cabinets. Wondering how you attach things to the walls, do RV's have studs, what are the walls made of???
ReplyDeleteI like the way you superimposed the toaster etc. on the counter. I am not sure if I would trust magnetic strips for knifes!!
ReplyDeleteI have a magnetic knife holder that holds 5 knives of various size and kitchen scissors. In over 4 years none of them have ever vibrated off.
DeleteI might leave the stickers for a few weeks before removing them. Whatever they are reminding you might be something that is commonly forgotten and could be dangerous.

And here I thought you baked that cupcake in your new toaster oven . You have nice counter space. I would be cautious of the magnetic knife strips. They might be okay but your don't want knives flying if you are in a small mishap! I mounted a knife rack inside the cabinet door under the kitchen sink. Works great.

As with wall attachment, wouldn't whatever you hang be rattled during transit? I personally prefer a near bare countertop for easy and quick cleanup, and definitely knifes behind the closed cabinet door.
Would get rid of the stickers, find that distracting!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, the labels would be gone if they were in my RV. I tried to call my housesitter to give me the name of the product I use to remove labels and she's not home and my dog wouldn't answer the phone. Until I get that info there's a product called Goof Off that works for label removal. I don't think that's the one I have but I'll let you know.
ReplyDeleteBest way to tackle the stickers: heat thoroughly with a hair dryer, then slowly peel off. If there's any residue, then you can resort to Goo Gone (least toxic) or Goof Off (slightly more toxic). But I wouldn't start with solvents, because they can make a gooey, smelly mess. Heat is cleaner and better.
ReplyDeleteAbout magnetic knife racks: I've been traveling with them for ten years now, and never had a knife fall off while on the road... and I've been over some pretty rough roads! Unless your knife rack is directly behind the driver's seat, I wouldn't give it a second thought.
