Big wind storm!

WOW, was it windy yesterday!  I've been in windy areas before, but yesterday had the sand really blowing.  Now I understand why bloggers write about deep cleaning their rigs after they leave the desert.  Even with everything closed up, there was a fine grit on every surface, the floor, the window sills, the table and counters.

Yesterday

Today - this isn't the same shot, but you get the idea.

Yesterday

Today

It was very interesting and exciting, I've never been in a wind/sand storm like this before.  After a while it got kind of tiresome, because I knew the grit was getting all over the inside of The Palms, Katie and I couldn't take our walks, and Katie gets a little nervous when we have lots of wind.  Poor thing was in bed by 7 pm, totally worn out.

The sand made a pretty sunset, though.  The sky around the sun was darker than usual, kind of shadowy, and very pretty.

Sandstorm sunset

Today is "sunny and windy" according to weather app, but nothing like yesterday.  So far, anyway.  These winds I can handle, but I think we'll stay inside most of the day until things are calm again.

For you Garmin people, there's an updated Garmin map. I bought the lifetime updates, and they let me know when a new one is available, so it's doing it's downloading right now.  Takes a long time, but I guess there's a lot of information in an update of  the US and Canada.  It's version 2012.30, in case any of you have the lifetime updates and don't have that one yet.  The lifetime update purchase was a really good deal. I can access it as long as I keep my current Garmin, and you can bet I will!

Quiet day in Quartzsite for Katie and me.  :)

  1. Wind does get tiresome...we've had a lot of it here in Nebr. lately too.

What sort of Internet access do you have? I was thinking that downloading such a big update to your Garmin so early in the month could put you over your bandwidth limit & could get expensive. I would think it would be better to do downloads like that when you're in town and get some free WiFi. Maybe you are lucky enough to have TRUE unlimited access.

  2. I hope you read a book or did some crocheting with all that wind you had yesterday! Wow those pics are great between yesterday and today. You could really see the sand the wind was blowing up. Love the sunset pics. Hope today is more fun for you and Katie!

  5. Wow big difference with the second picture. I love weather like that. My mom did too. I could see her now having a cup of tea at the kitchen table.

  6. I can just imagine how much dust must get inside! Yuck!

  7. It was terribly windy in Vegas too. The difference here that you and I understand is you may get a little dust but not like you get in "Q". Been there, seen that. The other buildings and vegetation act as a buffer here. Thank goodness!

  8. Yuckadoodle! I hate dust and grit. I suppose extended stays in Q won't be for me.

Wish me luck. I'm meeting with a salesman on Friday to discuss an RV I'm interested in. Hopefully he won't be like the sales guy at the RV show:

Just curious - do you run into that type attitude? I'm guessing, hoping, probably not since you already have your RV. I hope you're able to get out and about tomorrow.

  9. Yup, I've seen some wind storms while in Arizona. But it appears it was windy everywhere yesterday !! AND I was driving the I-10 in Texas. That was NOT fun. Sure had to have a tight grip on the wheel !

  11. Was wondering, does the sand pit
the outside of you RV? We had
    our car's paint pitted coming
over the grape vine in Calif.
    Hope nothing happened that you
    can't clean off.
    Can get old...huh?

  13. Continuous winds can get a bit discouraging alright. But, we've had a great winter here in the desert so we're still well ahead in the weather game!

  14. Am enjoying your blog, but am curious...what or who are "the dingbats"? An Rving group? Never heard of them. Thanks. Linda

  15. It's hardly ever windy in Desert Hot Springs, just ask Rick, he'll tell you!!! Sorry you had such dust and wind there. Hope things are back to normal now. Let Katie go to bed early and sleep late.

  16. I spent the better part of a Sunday updating my Garmin and I have pretty fast DSL. I read somewhere that my "life time updates" were just 4 times. Short life time.

I just got back from a week at the beach and it was so windy all the time. Not as bad as Q but I was sick of the wind.

  17. The winds can be quite nasty here in Arizona. One thing you don't want to do is breath that dirt and dust. You can get valley fever from the mold spores that get kicked up. Not fun.
