Last days at Quartzsite - and Stove Top Grill review

The Goodyear Blimp

The day after Superbowl Sunday I saw this in the sky - The Goodyear Blimp.   I remember seeing one when I was a kid in San Mateo, CA, just floating overhead.  I think it has a motor now - maybe it did then, too.  I wondered if it was going home after flying over the stadium on Sunday.

Kind of cool to see it moving along in the sky over the desert.  When my son, Tom, was little, he called it "The Blump."  Always made us laugh.

Another Foodie Episode

At the Big Tent in Quartzsite, Jeanne, Nancy and I walked over and Jeanne was looking for this Stove Top Grill.  She had seen it the day before, thought about it, and decided to go back and get one the next day.  It looked pretty good to me, too, so I got one.

I did what the demonstrator/salesman did - marinated some sliced chicken, two kinds of squash and a potato (in Italian Salad Dressing with some garlic and herbs added), then popped them on top of the grill when it was heated.

You place the grill over one of your smaller burners, add at least a cup of water in the trough in the outer metal thingie, place the grill down in the middle and add food.  I turned them over to grill each side against the metal twice.

When the slices were soft enough, I plated them - and added some cranberry sauce for the chicken and a little butter on the squash and potatoes.  Then a little dab of sour cream on the potatoes.

OMG!  Every bite was a little slice of heaven.  I was surprised it was sooooo flavorful - I'm soaking more squash and some artichoke hearts (that were in a jar in water from Sam's Club or Costco) in marinade right now, and with a little chicken again will grill them all tonight.  Add a baked potato and this will be dinner.  I'm hoping to have enough for leftovers for tomorrow with some rice on the side.

I love it when I get into the cooking mode.  It comes and goes, but it's here big time right now.  :)

This is what the box looks like that mine came in:

And here's the photo that was on-line showing the Stove Top Grill:

It's super easy to clean, and flat enough to fit in my pot drawer, so I didn't have to make space for it.

I looked out the window the last morning at Quartzsite and who did I see up on her roof?  Nancy!  Checking for shadows on her solar panels.  She ended up moving her rig to get more sunshine on her panels.  I think she said her TV antenna was causing an issue by casting a shadow on one of the panels.  Hi, Nancy!

That's it for now.  I have another review of a little $1 cooking thingie that I'll post soon that was a great deal, too.

From me and Katie, have a great Friday, everyone!  :)

    1. Yes, I love pretty much any kind of veggies, and these are different for me because I don't have a bar-b-que. Super easy, and the clean-up couldn't be quicker. :)

    2. Looks like a mighty fine cooking tool. Oh, how I can identify with the cooking, that comes and goes. I'm in cooking mode right now too. I will enjoy it will it lasts!! :}

    3. Yes, that's about the only time I'm creative while cooking - anything goes and that's when I create the BEST dishes. :)

  2. I so want that grill as a replacement for my microgrill. I need to find out if it will fit on my tiny 2-burner stove-top though. Thanks for the review!

  3. I've seen this advertised before. Never knew it worked so well. I think I'll invest it in to. Thanks for the heads up.

  4. Okay, now we bought that grill a couple years ago and didn't like it. You must have actually read the directions and done it right!!!

    1. That's too bad, but at least it was only $20. I think they were $23 (?), but if you bought two, he brought it down to $20, and Jeanne and I both got one. So far so good for me. :)

  5. When the meat is cooking does it splatter all over the place?? Cause that looks like a great little thing to use when you can't BBQ.

    1. No, actually it's really clean. And the second time when I only grilled veggies, I marinated them for a few hours then laid them on paper towels and pressed the top with another towel to take the oily dressing off them a bit. Flavor was still there, but not so much oil. There were no splatters at all, either time. So far, anyway. :)

  6. That's cool! Do you have to run the fan when you're cooking? Fortunately for mr, Jim grills on the Weber outside & he does a great job! I missed commenting on your pie post--we have a pie from Darlene's on our list. They're gorgeous! We stopped by the farmer's market in Q on Wednesday & got some beggies & delicious bread. Jim also loaded up on Poblano chiles--he's in heaven! We wouldn't have known about the Q farmer's market if you hadn't posted about it--thank you!

    1. I'm so glad you found the Farmer's Market - I wonder why they don't advertise it more? When you're at Sweet Darlene's for the pie, stay for lunch - I've eaten there a couple of times and the food was soooo good. I had my first Reuben sandwich - to die for - and my usual Patty Melt, equally delicious. Service is slow, so don't go when you're in a hurry, but I think the food is worth it.

  7. Wish I could get into the cooking mode. We have got to quit eating out. But since we're meeting Jeri and Terry for dinner tonight, guess it'll have to wait until tomorrow. lol

    1. I know - when I'm not in the cooking mode I am totally bored with food, nothing sounds good, and I don't want to cook. Then - BINGO! - everything changes. Everything sounds good, I want to cook any number of things and it all tastes delicious. Must be a hormonal thing? Have fun tonight with Jeri and Terry! :)

  8. Cooking ? What's that ? I hate it !! I do it only enough to feed myself. Besides the cost of eating out I just don't like doing it - only on rare occasions.

    1. What do you mean? I was so impressed with your chicken that you cook outside - and make enough for leftovers. I was there once when you were cooking and it smelled delish! I actually like eating out, but it's too expensive to do often. :)

  9. we saw that at the tent and I was a bit intrigued... glad to get a review from someone other than a salesman...

    1. Yeah, I have to admit he was a good salesman. But I saw him demonstrate and it looked so simple, and asked if I could taste a carrot. They were sitting on a plate and were cold, but they were still really tasty. He wasn't pushy, either. I wanted one after tasting the carrot, which aren't my favorite veggie, but I could see myself cooking them. :)

  10. I was at the Brooksville, FL rv show when I first saw one of those grills. Two ladies were with me and got the $20 deal. I was left out. The next day we were at a Goodwill and I paid $3 for a new in the box one. Have been getting them that way ever since. Love them. That is when I actually cook.

    1. That's funny! Glad you like yours, too. My friends all shop at thrift stores, but I never find anything I want. I think I just don't check them out enough and don't have the patience to go through the racks of things. It's an acquired skill. :)

  12. I had that stove top grill for a few years and enjoyed it, but after purchasing my Weber Q I retired it to my daughter's house.

    1. Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it for a few years - shows it's going to last me a while. I just don't have room for a bar-b-que. My storage is about zero in my outside compartments, so this little flat thing is perfect! :)
