Here she is - Katie in her new Car Seat, the Snoozer Luxury II Lookout Car Seat! As the name implies - doesn't she look like a good "lookout?" And she loves it!
It was supposed to arrive this week, between Monday and Friday, but it came last Friday. That was nice. I immediately took it out of the box to see what it looked like and I was happily surprised.
It was well packed, and I put Katie in it to see what she thought. She just sat there, looking around and didn't seem to want to get out.
This model seats the dog high enough to look out the windows, even if they are lying down, so there's lots of room underneath the car seat to put a drawer for storage. It's a good sized storage space. I haven't decided yet what I'll use it for, my stuff or Katie's stuff.
I installed the car seat on the passenger seat of The Palms, and it was super simple. I like the way the seat is held by the car's seat belt, not wrapped around the passenger seat with it's own straps, like the one I returned. This is much more secure, and looks like the seat won't move in an accident.
The lap part of the seat belt holds the car seat down and the shoulder harness is used to attach the included tether, which is attached to the dog's harness.
It is recommended that the dog wear a harness for attaching the tether, rather than their collar. I can understand this - if I stop quickly, Katie could have neck damage if I attached her collar to the tether and she was jerked forward. She has a couple of harnesses and this pink one works perfectly.
I like that the clasp is a thick, sturdy metal and not plastic like the clasps on the car seat I returned.
I took photos from all angles and Katie just sat there and watched me. See how high up she is? She seems to like that pillow she's sitting on, but I might take it out and put in a blanket, which would put her lower in the seat and more enclosed if she wants to lay down and sleep.
You can see how large the Snoozer Luxury II Lookout Car Seat is - this is a Medium. I'm thinking the small size would have worked - Katie is only 12 or 13 pounds, but I wanted her to be able to lie down. You all know how long I drive sometimes - in fact next Sunday Katie and I are driving back to San Diego for my annual medical appointments. We're leaving early in the morning, and will be driving all the way - close to 10 hours on the road. That will be a good test of how well the car seat works on the road, and how well Katie does with it over a long period of time. I'll let you know. :)
Yesterday morning the sun was streaming in the front windshield and I put her in her seat to see if she would stay there. I left her and went about my business, and she settled in and laid down for a long time. Finally Lauren came over and knocked on the door and she jumped out. I didn't see if she jumped over the back of the seat or down onto the floor between the two truck seats. I'd love to get her used to hanging out in her seat.
If you are interested in checking out this car seat (it's pretty expensive, but there are smaller sizes and less expensive car seats that I considered, too) check on amazon.com, hopefully using a link on this post. :)
P.S. -This morning with the sun shining in through the windshield, Katie climbed over the passenger seat back and settled down with her chin on the car seat arm rest. She likes it!

From Me and My Dog, have a great Monday, everyone!
Full-timing in our 24-foot 2006 Forest River Sunseeker 2200 as of June 1, 2011, I've added solar panels and a catalytic heater so that we can camp off-grid comfortably. My dog, Katie, is great company. We traveled a bit in the Western States our first year, and visited the deserts of Arizona and most of the New Mexico State Parks the next four. This year - 2016 - I'm hoping to find a park model to buy so we will have a home base, but we'll continue to travel, too. What a life! :)
Katie looks pretty happy. I'm thinking the seat might be better if the pillow didn't put her up quite so high.
ReplyDeleteI admit, I have not been on this web page in a long time... however it was another joy to see It is such an important topic and ignored by so many, even professionals. professionals. I thank you to help making people more aware of possible issues. pet booster seat
DeleteIt's great that she likes it. I know we've bought beds and things for our critters and they look at it and walk away. So it's good that she does seem to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know Katie is safe....she is so cute in her look out!
ReplyDeleteYou be safe in your travels... 10 hours is a long trip! Hope you can avoid that bumpy road going south.
That looks like a great seat and Katie looks all settled in for the duration!!!
ReplyDeleteShe looks adorable in that seat. Good to keep her safer too!
ReplyDeleteThat seat is so cool. She knows it's hers. I think medium is just fine.
ReplyDeleteKatie is going to be riding in style, now if you can teach her to read maps she'll make a fine navigator.
ReplyDeleteKatie sure seems to love that cushy seat. I've never had a dog small enough to put in a car seat, but I understand the safety issue.
ReplyDeleteThat is just the cuties thing ever. She looks like she is real royalty sitting up there so high. She will love it being able to see out I'm sure. It looks really sturdy. The harness that she is wearing looks exactly like what we have for Cooper and Effie, that way their necks wouldn't be affected by a fast stop. Thanks for sharing. Katie is a lucky little girl to have such a caring and loving mom. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great seat, Katie will enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 male rescue chihuahuas who really don't like any kind of confinement, but I think this dog seat might work for them. They weigh 3 and 4 pounds, and have been together all their lives (2 and 3 years old). I want to try this - do you think the medium size would be big enough, or should I get the large size? I'm sure the small size would not give them enough room. Can I order through your site and give you credit for the sale? Family obligations keep me grounded for now, but hope to be joining you full-timers at some point in time!
ReplyDeleteLove that it looks so safe and that she's happy with it!
ReplyDeleteI like Katie's seat. It fits her to a "T" and she'll be safe and still be able to watch the road for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat seat! I know Angel loves to see what's going on and where she's going.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the great info on Katie's new seat. I am considering a riding seat for Riley.
Also, glad to have an Amazon link for you. I try to always use links of my RV friends to do my ordering, and it's great to now have a link to kick a couple percent to you.
Hugs to Katie!
Jeanne
Perfect! I may look into getting one for Doris when I get back.
ReplyDeleteKween Katie! What a love she is. Her demeanor just shrieks "I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE RV'ing! ;-> The way she looks at the camera, well, she is just the Elizabeth Taylor of dogdom!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Katie loves her seat! My two long-hair mini dachshunds love theirs, they have had them for years. So much safer than riding with them loose. I put towels over the ones we have, then they get washed often. Just cut holes through them for the straps. Have a safe trip!
ReplyDeleteNo question Katie loves her new seat if she's going to it on her own. I'd NEVER be able to get Bennie to sit still long enough to take all those pictures !! LOL
ReplyDeleteKatie sure looks happy and content.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree with you about taking out the cushion when driving I think she sits to high. I know she wears the harness but it still looks like she can tumble out. I guess I am just a worrier.
she looks pretty happy and settled in that car seat..our fur kids travel in doggie seat belts..they are so used to them they just stand and wait for you to put them on them...
ReplyDeleteI bought a car seat and a padded harness for Archie after he jumped out of the truck after a Boxer. I was only going 2-3 miles an hour but it scared the bejeebers outta me. Little creton. Anyhow, he liked it so much I got a second set for the car. I did hear of a lady getting a ticket from a state trooper for having her dog in her lap while driving. This is much safer for both you and little Katie. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteMay I borrow that seat for my greys!?
ReplyDeleteShe looks great in there! I love how high it is, she can, as you say, lay down and alternately snooze and look out. That first picture of her is the best, she looks so proud!
ReplyDeleteOur cat Frosting Jr. has comandeered the captain's chair as her spot.... Now we have to teach her to drive.
Barbara, that looks like a real winner! Katie is so cute in that car seat!! Of course, she's just so darn cute everywhere else, too. That should work well. You take care on your upcoming trip. That's a long way to drive in one day. You really should think about breaking it up into at least one overnight stay. Sure wouldn't want you to wear yourself out. Give Katie a big smooch from us.
ReplyDeleteKatie-My two little dogs love their car seats! Don't you feel secure and snugly in it?
ReplyDeleteHi, nice post. This is an interesting and very informative topic. Thanks for sharing your ideas, its not just entertaining but also gives your reader knowledge. Good blogs style too, Cheers!
ReplyDeleteA pet car seat will greatly enhance your pet's security when driving through city traffic, on mountain roads, or in case of an accident. They can also help protect your car's interior and preserve its resale value.
