Yuma, AZ Tuesday Marketplace. I've never seen artichokes at a Farmer's Market - artichokes are my favorite food. They run from $2.50 to $3.00 each in the grocery stores. Except Costco or Sam's, where the prices are better. I couldn't believe they had two large boxes of artichokes at the Farmer's Market, and they were 2 for $1. I've NEVER seen them that cheap. I got four of them, and so far have only boiled one. It was GOOD! The second one will be cooked up today. :)
Bunches of fresh asparagus with the tough ends cut off were only $2 a bunch. Great deal and really fresh looking, so I got a bunch of these, too.
I also got some nice broccoli, which I cooked up to make my New York Pie for dinner.
Other tables had citrus:
Colorful peppers:
Jewelry, other foods and many different items. This booth had some cool clothing wraps. The seller demonstrated the many ways this top can be worn, it was kind of amazing. But not RVing attire. Very cool, though.
Here's the street - lots of booths, but not too many. It made for an easy walk to the end, seeing everything.
Below is one of the food booths, looks like Kim is enjoying a taco - she said it was really good.
Next, on the way to Best Buy, we saw an In-N-Out Burger. Jeanne saw it first, and proceeded to entertain Kim and me with a hysterical fit of not "using her words." We couldn't figure out what was wrong, when she finally blurted out real words: "In-N-Out Burger!" Jeanne has heard about their burgers and fries but never tried them and was very excited to see their sign. Of course, we stopped for lunch. I'm not a fries person, but I love chocolate shakes, so I treated myself to a burger and shake. Yum. They both had burgers and fries. All delicious, and we proceeded to our next stop...
...Best Buy! I've debated on and off for a long time about branching out of the Android world into Apple land - and I finally bought a new iPad Air. And screen protector. And smart cover. $$$$$ For once I spent some money on something fun. For me, not for The Palms. :)))))
We also stopped at Wal-Mart and brought the dogs in - they were in our carts on blankets Jeanne keeps in the car for Riley. Katie and Riley REALLY enjoyed going down the aisles, looking at all the stuff, smelling all the odors, being greeted by other shoppers. Even the staff was very friendly to them. I guess in Yuma it's so hot outside, lots of days people can't leave the dogs in the car, so they must be used to people bringing them inside where it's cooler. They can't do much damage while in a shopping cart, so I guess were were okay. And the dogs just loved it!
From me and Katie, have a great Monday, everyone! :)
Full-timing in our 24-foot 2006 Forest River Sunseeker 2200 as of June 1, 2011, I've added solar panels and a catalytic heater so that we can camp off-grid comfortably. My dog, Katie, is great company. We traveled a bit in the Western States our first year, and visited the deserts of Arizona and most of the New Mexico State Parks the next four. This year - 2016 - I'm hoping to find a park model to buy so we will have a home base, but we'll continue to travel, too. What a life! :)
I think there are a lot of Walmarts dog friendly I know they are in Florida lots of good looking food in that post...lol
ReplyDeleteYou know an important part of living a good retirement is living in a place that is affordable. With food prices so high, being able to find good produce at a good price makes a big difference in stretching your dollar and living a healthy lifestyle. Yuma sounds like the kind of place to retire to.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the dogs in the carts!
ReplyDeleteI like artichokes in salads and also love the marinated kind. I cooked a whole one years ago and it was the most awful thing I've ever tried to eat. I have no idea what I did wrong, but I'll never try it again though I like eating them when they are cooked and I don't have to do anything to them.
ReplyDeleteI love the fresh fruit and vegetables in the markets around here. I even picked up some tree ripened oranges today from the market. Nummy.
ReplyDeleteWhat?! You didn't get the fries at In-n-Out?! I can understand not liking the fries at other fast food places because they're poison, really, but these are real, fresh potatoes. They cut them right there. Best fries ever!
ReplyDeleteOh yea, I love artichokes too. When I was growing up, we got them on special occasions, like holidays.
Artichokes, tried them a couple time, just not for me.
ReplyDeleteThe the fresh markets in Yuma right now , love them we were supposed to still be there.
What gorgeous photos! We try to eat a lot of vegies & artichokes are particular favorites. Yummm! Thank you for info about the Tuesday market in Yuma--will definitely go there next year! There's so much to love about Yuma! The 'girls' look so happy in the carts--happy they were well-received.
ReplyDeleteI have an iPad & love it. The only caveat is that you have to be connected to Wi-fi to back things up to the Cloud, which we rarely are. Otherwise, I love it! It's been wonderful leaving the PC-based world & all its' cryptic error messages & viruses behind. Enjoy!
Our Walmart (in Texas) has a policy that you assume any dog brought into the store is a service dog ... as long as they are well behaved and not a threat to other shoppers. I work in the Pharmacy and we see a lot of pets, including some really cute puppies.
ReplyDeleteHeard a lot about In-N-Out Burger over the years travelling to the U.S. - but have never tried them. We do not have this Burger Chain in Canada.
ReplyDeleteLuci would love going into a store like that!!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun shopping!! An ipad is on my "wish" list! Loved those tops in the photos..but I know, RV attire is simple. (But I am getting Crocs, fur filled clogs in the mail tomorrow!! Purple!!)
