14-Inch Magnetic Knife Rack in 18/10 Stainless Steel
I had my smaller knives in a kitchen drawer and the long knife in my "kitchen gadget holder" shown below - a container I got at Michael's when I was living in my condo. I used to put my favorite "fat quarters" in it when I was quilting. It has a high rounded lid, so it's great for things like my strainer and steamer. They are rounded, too, so I put them on the top of the spatulas, wisks, large spoons, garlic grater, wine bottle opener, etc. That large knife barely fit from one bottom corner to the opposite lid top, so I'm glad to have another place to put it.
I love having my knives close at hand, and this frees up some space in my kitchen drawer.
This is the first time I've screwed anything into my rig. I really didn't want to - I love the original coach and don't want to make any permanent changes. At least not now. But this seemed like such an obvious space saver and with the weight of the knives, the holder wouldn't stay on the wall with just Velcro strips. So I had to use screws to attach it.
See the knives on the right, on the wall? I lined the handles up - OCD anyone? :)
So far I love it, and we'll see what happens when I'm on the road. Will the knives stay on the magnetic strips?

Katie says, HI!
From me and Katie, have a great weekend, everyone! :)
Looks great! Hope you enjoy your weekend as well.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I need to get a knife holder and that looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt looks pretty nifty but do you remove the knives when traveling down the road. I would think a big bump might send them flying elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteI want to get one of those knife holders. George loves knives and the whole top drawer is full of them :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! And you will make intruders think twice. Seriously, I love the interior of the Palms.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about leaving it stock - I'm inclinded to do that as well.
We have had a magnetic knife holder for over 2 years in our MH and have never had a knife fall off of it (hope I haven't jinxed myself!) We found ours at Bed,Bath and Beyond and used a 20 % coupon on it !
ReplyDeleteYour RV looks so great inside. It looks like a professional chef uses that kitchen. I know the magnet is strong but, having seen pictures of the inside of my friends Roadtrek when she was hit by another driver, I would still worry about where those knives might end up in case of a big bump. You and Katie are too important to take a chance.
ReplyDeleteReally good looking. Katie looks so cute in that photo.
ReplyDeleteWould the knives fit in the sink when traveling? I worry about them coming loose also. Katie is such a sweetie. That is an awesome picture of her.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm with Longdogs2. Yes, take the knives down for travel. Otherwise, they look great! I don't like putting holes in walls either, but I've done a few in my RV too. What I put up will stay there though, even if I sell.
ReplyDeleteI just read your sidenote of Main Street RV -- I wondered why they went up on the size of the converter when I read back when it was installed. You always should stay with the same size you take out. I was afraid it would be a problem. Not sure what my comment was at the time, or if I was able to leave one. Quite often, my comments get dropped due to bad internet service. But I sure am glad the issues were resolved. What cheapskates though!
I would like to have the holder just to use when I was camping but I would take them down while traveling. Just take a sec to wrap them in a towel..then good to go.
ReplyDeleteI have experienced my Cutco very sharp knives taking flight when I had to make a abrupt stop. It was not pretty. I would take them down when traveling...
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Katie, looks like she is getting ready to give a very important speech.
ReplyDeleteThat is one SERIOUS knife!!! I agree with Judy, take them down when traveling. Love the "Katie takes a bow" picture. Hugs to her!!
ReplyDeleteHi there Katie!..nice job on mounting the knife holder!..OCD?..you too?
ReplyDeleteI did not bring any of my large knives with me. I gave them to my brother. I have 2 small paring knifes and a large plastic knife for fruits and vegetables.I guess I just don't cook much anymore.
ReplyDeleteI love that soulful picture of Katie. She really does look like she is about to speak. And I love the interior of the Palms and what you have done with it. Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI like the way it looks, but my favorite knives are ceramic and wouldn't stick. I use a knife block to hold my steels, that has a piggy backed holder on it for the ceramics. I keep it on the counter like I do at home. When we travel it goes in the sink positioned so the knives cannot fly.
ReplyDeleteI would take yours down when traveling. I would be afraid Katie might get hurt in a sudden stop. Does she travel in a crate?
OK, So how come my kitchen never looks that tidy !!??
ReplyDeleteKatie is so cute. I just would love to reach out and give her a scratch on the head.
ReplyDeleteThe knives look so neat and attractive on your wall. Your neat kitchen looks great too. You have to keep everything neat in these RV's or you would go nuts trying to find things. They are not meant to be untidy :))
