Storming like crazy

Right now it's raining cats and dogs and hail - thunder and lightening.  A really good storm.  The temperature really dropped.  I'm barefooted and wearing shorts, and suddenly my legs and feet are cold.  I just love this changeable weather this time of year at Bluewater.  Katie and I took a nice walk this morning down to the Visitor's Center to chat with Hazel, and while we were there, a big rainstorm came up.  By the time we left, it was dry and good walking weather.

The sun has been out, and then suddenly, this storm - WOW, I just saw lightening and immediately there was a thunder clap that almost stopped my heart.  It was CLOSE.  I love this.  (I hope we live through it.)

Anyway, I just had to post while the storm was going on.  So exciting!

Here are some photos from yesterday. More hummingbirds - the Rufous did well feeding, as well as the male Black-chinned, but the female kept sticking it's beak over and under and around the hole in the middle of the yellow plastic flower.  It even hopped on top of the feeder and flew under, testing the underside with it's beak.  It always finally made it to the food, though.  I thought the feeder was leaking through all the seams at first, but no, she was just looking in all the wrong places.

They are so beautiful and entertaining, I love taking photos of hummingbirds!   :)

And during our evening drive, Hazel and I had a nice surprise and saw a horse family by the lake.  A stallion, mare, yearling and baby.  We were losing the light, so these are pretty flat, colorwise, and only these photos turned out at all.  Hopefully more horses will be back.  With all the rain, we have lots of grasses and ground cover for them to eat.

Beautiful Mare and her Baby

Look at those long legs.

Staying close to Mom.

I can't believe it, but it's still raining with thunder and lightening.  So, I'm going to Publish this and go back to enjoying the light show and all the noise.

From Me and Katie, have a great Friday, everyone!  :)

  1. I love watching a good thunder & lightning storm too. And we haven't had a good one in a while now.

  2. I don't enjoy t-storms anymore because the girls just hate them. And up here when we have them they bring hail with them. Hail is not good for the rig or the truck. You take the most beautiful pictures of hummingbirds. But that baby staying close to mama is so darling.

  3. I enjoy a good thunder and lightning storm (without hail), but Emma is always a wreck. Even with her new thundershirt on. :(

  4. Wow, that foal isn't very old either. Love it's big knobby knees! Interesting markings on one of those hummers, like a bee.
I don't mind storms, but those loud claps of thunder & lightning can get scary at times.

  5. I love your photos! We have a feeder too but the boys seem to chase everyone off. They are fun to watch and photograph. We have just begun to look at used rv's. We are on a budget so maybe limited. We only want a 23 to 24 foot one. We will be traveling with cats. Our is in escrow right now. Our first destination will be Yosemite. I am from CA but have never been there and then we will head north. It will be awhile. Take care!

  6. The storms can be exciting and scary all at the same time. And the cooler temp's are a welcome relief.

  8. You always have such gorgeous pictures! As long as you're not getting damaged by the storms, sometimes they are really great.

  11. I love thunder and lightning too, but Sammy (my puppy) hates it. Usually he cowers into a corner during the whole session.
It's even more prominent in an RV where you have less "roof" over your head so you can hear the outside noises more amplified!
I remember once in our tent trailer a really good thunderstorm and the whole trailer shook with each reverberation. It was scary and fun all at the same time.

love the pics of the hummingbirds, such fascinating creatures.

    Cheers!

  12. Incredible photos of the hummingbirds, the birds are beautiful, and I love that you've captured them sitting still. I've never had any luck.

Are those wild horses? Very pretty!

I love a thunder and lightening storm (without hail of course) and the kids and I are often found out watching before it starts to rain. Our neighbours appear to think we're nuts.

    Have a great weekend!

Thunderstorms can be really awesome...only if they don't cause damage!!

  14. I love a good storm too especially in the rv but the dogs get so upset they drive you silly. Sometimes even when it rains hard they get upset. But I agree they are really neat. Great hummingbird photos. Wonder why that little female was having trouble finding the feeder holes?

  15. You are braver than I am. I do not like thunder and lightning, especially being in an Rv.

Love the pictures of the horses.
