Do you carry an "8" in your wallet?

First, a big WELCOME to Teri, our newest Follower.  Thanks for signing on, Teri.  I'm planning to be a full-timer, hopefully I'll purchase a used Class C this summer or fall (sooner if the right one falls into my lap), keep working until December, then hit the road.  I CAN'T WAIT!  I hope you enjoy following the process with me and Katie, my dog, and then the adventures we'll have starting January 2012 or sooner. : )
Quick blog today.  I've been wanting to ask you all if you have heard of carrying an "8" in your wallet.

I heard someone talking about it on the radio one night a few years ago.  He said if you put a piece of paper with the number 8 on it in your wallet, money will come your way.   Listeners were calling in and telling stories about how it worked for them.

I'll believe about anything, so I went to my computer, typed an 8 in a large font, printed it out and cut it into a small square.  I put it in my wallet.

I have to tell you, I forget it's there, but once in a while I clean out my wallet, take out old receipts and other things to throw away, then I see the eight.  Each time I think about it and what it's there for.

I've never been poor or really wanted for anything I needed, never went to bed hungry. I've never had a lot of money, either.  But it seems like since I have had that 8 in my wallet, my finances have been smoother.  It's not that money has dropped out of the sky or anyone has given me money, but opportunities have come my way to make money, I've had more refunds and rebates, my tax returns have been more than I expected.  Little things here and there.  Sale prices, good deals seemed to come my way.  And my attitude about what I wanted and/or needed changed.  Sounds weird, doesn't it?

I think that most things in life happen because one way or another we make them happen. It might be unconscious or subtle, but we pretty much float our own boats.  And I think having that 8 caused a subtle change in my thinking and spending.  Maybe the sales and deals were because I researched more.  Maybe I was subconsciously looking for more opportunities to make money and was willing to take them.  I've been saving more money than I ever have before, and paying down debt.  And it hasn't been difficult.
Did the 8 make all that happen?  Of course not, I did it.  But did the 8 somehow help me change?  Who knows?   I think maybe it did.

Do any of you have an 8 in your wallets?

From Me and My Dog, Katie, have a great Monday evening, everyone! : )

  1. I am definitly put an 8 in my wallet! Need all the luck I can get.

Funny you should write this today. For years i carried a nutmeg in my purse. I had been to New Orleans and stopped into a "magic" "vodoo" shop. They sold nutmegs with a story that if you put a nutmeg where you kept your money, it would never be empty. True, there would be a nutmeg there.

This afternoon I was looking at which spice jars to toss and I noticed an old jar of whole nutmegs. I put one in my purse before throwing out the rest.

Like you, in my adult life I have never been poor. But a bit of extra money can't hurt.

So how do I win that Lottery?

  2. I've never heard of the "magic 8", but you better believe that I'm going to put one in my wallet as soon as I'm done typing this!

I agree with you that we are the captains of our destiny. At some level, we all have similar opportunities and I believe the outcomes are highly driven by our attitudes. Positive attracts positive; negative attracts negative.

And occassionally a little luck helps, so I'm going to find my lucky 8!

  3. Thanks for the welcome, I never heard of the "8" in a wallet before, but it can't hurt to do it, and have a reminder about saving and not spending.

  4. I bet all your readers are going to put an "8" into their wallet, and I will too! I am also going to buy some whole nutmegs. I used to love a squirt of whipped cream in my coffee, with cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg on it. It's better if you are sharing it with someone, but my dog doesn't drink coffee!

  6. I'll have to go get a wallet... then I'd have to go buy a purse to put the wallet in. Then I'll start filling up that purse with all kinds of things. Then I'll have to clean one more thing out, periodically.

  7. Even I never heard of this before, I'm wondering if the '8' talk came from a Chinese (Cantonese to be exact)... for '8' sounds like 'rich' in Cantonese, thus it's considered to be a lucky number. '18' is even better, for '10' sounds like 'sure', so 18 = sure to get rich! :)

But, no, I don't carry an '8' or '18' in my wallet.

  10. Yes I do and for all my love ones.... It has worked every time, put your positive focus and energy into that put it in your wallet or your purse and forget it is there! Before you know it you notice the person in front of you that paid for your coffee or you want a $20 scratch card or next thing you know you have an abundance of financial freedom! I know this works because I've done it and everybody I put it in their wallet on knowingly called me within a week or within a month or within a couple months telling me the amazing and good news! I put it in my Mom's wallet and within 2 days she won $12,000 and when I put in my uncle's wallet the same day he won $6,000. That's just a light example but yes it works if you believe in it! I mean why not you know it's not going to hurt you but it definitely can and will help you!

  11. I heard this on C2C a few days ago and decided today to give it a try. At work, I got a white sheet of paper and drew and 8, cut it out and put it in my wallet. Hand on heart not five minutes later I checked my email. I got a message from the revenue office in the country I live in to check my account. They are going to send me €400 because I overpaid taxes. Does not seem like much but I wasn’t expecting it. It was a nice surprise! So does it work? It did for me.
