Wordless Wednesday - Cell Phone Tower Disguises

For more, click here.  Once I learned they were turning cell towers into trees to disguise them, I've been looking out for them.  I've seen a few on my travels.  I've also seen the American flag poles at a car dealership.

From me and Katie, have a great Wednesday, everyone!  :)

  1. They are getting pretty ingenious with those now, aren't they?

  2. Little did they know they would become the topical interest for us!! Love it!!

  3. Wow, they are neat. I like the ones disguised as cactus.

  4. Great shots. They're called "stealth towers" in the telecommunication industry.

  6. Those are great!! Have seen the palm trees and pine.... we have a pine by the golf club in Bend. no one wants them in THEIR yard, but I can't see anything wrong with those.... unless they omit ohms or something that would affect people. But looking at them, they are pleasing...

  7. If I may comment as a person whose career was in public safety communication for a PD. We want our cell phones to just work. These do a credible job and allow closer in towers throughout urban areas. For myself I feel they need to be high above both to cover a wider area and to dissipate the RF signal. By the way, there are no ill effects from the RF unless you are maybe 3 feet from the source. These antennas are designed to send the signal out horizontally so there in no dangerous RF below the antenna. No worries.

  8. Interesting, but it does seem kinda silly to me! I chuckle every time I see one. Everyone knows they are cell towers and most of them don't look very realistic. Wonder how much, if any, it adds to the cost of the tower (and thus to the cell phone bill).

  9. We saw the saguaro ones all around Phoenix, Carefree, Scottsdale. Bob's aunt and uncle pointed them out to us. When we lived in Hawaii, we saw the palm tree towers.

  10. We have a couple on the island that look like the trunks of very tall trees. I like the cactus ones and hey. If it improves cell phone reception, it's okay in my book! Thank you for another unique Wordless Wednesday, Barbara!

  11. We've seen the 'pine tree' ones in our travels. I think it's great that they are disguising them as well as they do. Now we'll have to keep an eye out for the other ones!

  12. That sure takes the wind out of anyone's sail that complaining that the cell phone companies are destroying the scenery. Now if they could only do something with those huge wind turbines.(Hint)
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  13. Very clever! While they are pretty obvious, they do tend to blend in and make me smile. On the other hand, I'm not particularly offended by a regular tower. It's all just part of what makes "life"!

    Virtual hugs,

    Judie

  14. How interesting. I wasn't aware that they were covering up cell towers. I think it is probably a good idea. I'll have to watch out for one to see if I still think so in person.
