Today when Katie and I were walking, we noticed some lizards running from bush to bush. They were little, tiny things, and really pretty - with bright turquoise tails. This was in the area the Roadrunners were wandering around, and I think these little guys are what they were stalking.
They were super small and super fast, and I was lucky to get some decent photos, this first shot was really good. This is one of those times when I just point and shoot, and have no idea what I've captured until I download the pictures to the computer screen. This is the first one that came up - a really lucky shot:
These little guys are called Blue-Tailed
Skinks, also known as the Five-lined Skink, and have an expendable bright blue tail
when they are young that fades as they get older. Isn't he pretty? (It looks like more than five lines, though... I might have the ID wrong.)
It looked like their heads are tinged with some turquoise, too, but I couldn't find anything on-line about the color on their heads.
Next, a couple of shots of Katie - first, every night before she goes to bed, she gets a treat of a spoonful of peanut butter that I put in a Kong, and she licks it out. She sometimes pesters me, but I don't get up to fix her treat until after 7 or so. Finally I'll say, "Doooo youuuu waaaaant......." and she looks like this, waiting for me to finish the question:
And then I finish with, "PEANUT BUTTER TREAT???" And she goes crazy! It doesn't take much to entertain us!!!
Her latest thing... she's been sleeping on my pillow lately, and I hate to climb up into the bunk and lay my head down on a warm pillow. So I've started putting a throw pillow on top of my pillow so she has to lay down somewhere else on the duvet. This is what she did the first night I put the throw pillow up there:
"I don't see you, and I'm ignoring this stupid pillow!"
"I still don't see you...and this isn't very comfortable. How do I gracefully get out of this one?"
I finally told her to get off the pillow and she laid down over in the corner and started licking her leg, poor baby:
There are some pretty flowers and flowering bushes here in the parking lot of Sandia Casino - this one was a single yellow bloom that I thought looked kind of like a rhododendron blossom.
And finally, some gorgeous photos of the sunset the other evening:
From me and Katie, have a great Monday evening, everyone! :)
Full-timing in our 24-foot 2006 Forest River Sunseeker 2200 as of June 1, 2011, I've added solar panels and a catalytic heater so that we can camp off-grid comfortably. My dog, Katie, is great company. We traveled a bit in the Western States our first year, and visited the deserts of Arizona and most of the New Mexico State Parks the next four. This year - 2016 - I'm hoping to find a park model to buy so we will have a home base, but we'll continue to travel, too. What a life! :)

Poor Katie. She isn't spoiled is she? Are three pups are spoiled rotten. Beautiful pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteDizzy-Dick, you have no idea! Honestly, she is spoiled, but very well behaved, too. Once in a while she thinks she's the Alpha Dog, and I have to let her know who is really boss. We've been going through that the last couple of days. It feels good to be the Queen of my kingdom again. :)
DeleteI saw a roadrunner, but not any lizards when I was at Sandia this summer. I'll have to look for them next time I'm there (next month).
ReplyDeleteAnd, seriously, we know who's REALLY queen of the castle at the Palms (you go Katie!). Haha.
Katie is as cute and spoiled as P-Nut... I love my little Chihuahua... Love the little blue tailed critters! Does it get too warm sleeping above the cab? I am downsizing to a 24' class c from a 36' class a. I really loved the layout of your little home on wheels and have looked and looked for the same floor plan. And, eureka! I finally located one with low, low, low miles and lots of storage and the little rear kitchen and it actually has a hide-a-bed so I'm thinking I'll go that route instead of up above. I think getting up and down may be too much for my chubby, broken down old carcass... lol... It also has the slide where the hide-a-bed is. I will travel in my Jeep from Nevada to Minnesota and then tow the Jeep back behind the motorhome. I can't wait. I drove BIG truck (lady driver) for over 30 years and I decided though there is so much more room and storage that I don't want to drive a beast anymore and pare down to the basics and be able to get into smaller boondocking spots. So exited!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new home! For me and Katie, this size and layout works just perfectly, and no, it doesn't get too hot up in the overhead bunk. Of course, on hot nights, it's hot, but if you open the little windows, there's usually a nice breeze. If I ever decide to sleep on my pull-out couch, I'll just get a nice sleeping bag to use and roll it up each morning to stow. The Palms doesn't have a hide-a-bed or a slide - that sounds great! :)
DeleteBeautiful sunset photo. She's a smart dog.
ReplyDeleteThat skink is very lovely and I'm thinking that the roadrunners wanted them for din-din!
ReplyDeleteYour sunset photos are spectacular! Give Katie kisses from us!
Thanks, Hazel. I've never heard of a Skink before, but this guy was easy to research because of his blue tail. I was incredibly lucky to get those photos. I have to say, great sunset shots are a whole lot easier to get, they don't move as fast. LOL
DeleteOooooo, that sunset is beautiful!!! Last time I did the bedding, I had all the pillows on the floor and dirty Carl had gone in there and made a bed for himself on TOP of all my pillows (I have 5 pillows on my bed, I know, I know, overkill, but we must have choices :) It was SO disgusting on SO many levels.... so now I must strip bed and be sure to put pillows back up on the bed while cases are washing, so he can't get to them.. fortunately I have him trained to stay OFF my bed!!!! (Luci can't get up there unless I put her in, so ok that way, he is just too big and gross, she is tiny and delicate and sweet :)
ReplyDeleteI always find my point, shoot, and pray photos often turn out the best. All of your photos are gorgeous, the skink and the rocks are so colorful, the sunset is absolutely beautiful, and little Miss Katie is so adorable with her cocked head and attitude!
ReplyDeleteThe skink is really pretty, especially their tail. And Katie's so funny about the pillow--our fur kids are hilarious, aren't they? Loved your sunset photos--there's nothing quite as beautiful as a New Mexico sky!
ReplyDeleteKatie is such a hoot. They really have their likes and dislikes.
ReplyDeleteBuddy does the same thing with the pillow. I tried keeping a towel over the pillow and that worked pretty well. I also tried having a pillow specifically for him that I kept on the side he seemed to prefer to sleep on - which, of course, was the side I preferred. I then took an extra sheet and just laid over the pillow and kind of bunched up on the bed. That seems to work best. Sometimes I'll find him sleeping under the sheet, sometimes on top, on the pillow and sometimes in the middle with a bunch of toys. It doesn't look great - an unmade bed impression - but it's easy and seems to work.
